Genesis 2:18-25 - creation of Eve, the first woman
(nu / woman)
The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." NIV
Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to live alone. I will make a suitable companion to help him." TEV
(yao / want, need, important)
God's hands (zhua) prepared a woman (nu) under the sun (ri) to meet Adam's need (yao). [Dr. Nelson thinks that Adam initially had a sun-like brilliance.]
(tuo / appropriate, proper)
God's hands (shou) prepared a woman (nu) suitable (tuo) for Adam.
None of the animals created by God and named by Adam was suitable for him.
So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's rigs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. NIV
Then the Lord God made the man fall into a deep sleep, and while he was sleeping, he took out one of the man's ribs and closed up the flesh. He formed a woman out of the rib and brought her to him. TEV
(yue / moon) + (li / strength,
power, force) = (lei / rib, side)
The moon suggests the sleep of Adam while a strong part of his body, a rib, was taken to make the woman. Adam was very pleased because the woman was a made from part of him.
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame. NIV
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united with his wife, and they become one. The man and the woman were both naked, but they were not embarrassed. TEV
Jesus Christ, when teaching about marriage, quoted from this chapter to show God's created intention for marriage - one man and one woman joined together, contrary to homosexual practices. He also said, "In the beginning the Creator made people male and female...", not billions of years after the beginning, contrary to evolutionary theory.
