Obelisks

Google Earth view of the field of obelisks. The vertical obelisks cast the black shadows. Others lie on the ground, and one large obelisk lies broken (bottom, left of middle). The streets are paved with stones of different colors to show patterns.

The large broken obelisk is in the bottom right. In the bottom left are skylights to illuminate rooms in the tombs below ground.

In the rear museum was a poster showing the sources of dyes used by Axum artists for their traditional artwork. It is shown next at full resolution for readability. Scan over the image to read its content about the plant and stone sources for the colors.
